CG: Kolby, tell us a little bit about yourself. What is your background in graphic design like?

KB: I don’t have much of a background in design. I know that sounds bad. I started designing and I’m still designing. I do like to think I’ve grown a lot, though.

CG: You’ve submitted a few tee designs to Emptees and Design By Humans. Any plans to start printing any of your designs on your own?

KB: I would love to eventually have a few designs printed. To be honest, in the back of my head, I want to start a clothing company so bad. Most designers do. Right now it’s just a thought. I want a solid plan before I go through with anything, if I do at all. I think a lot of companies don’t have a solid plan and that’s why they fail. (ex: Google your “clothing company’s” name before you brand. Search more than the first page of results) Set yourself apart. If I see one more company that’s based on zombie illustrations I’m going to drive a screwdriver through my temple.

CG: About 2 months ago you confessed that you had stopped drawing. Have you found the inspiration to start drawing again? If so, what was your inspiration?

KB: For the most part I have. I really don’t enjoy it anymore because to me, it’s more of a hassle than it is worth. I’m not that good at it anyway. I’ve started getting back into manipulation photos again. Most of the stuff I’m doing now is photo/collage style designs.

CG: What does Kolby do outside of designing tees? Any other hobbies or interests?

KB: I love cars. I could work on them all day. I’m not an expert mechanic but it is still something I love to do. I also like to play bass and fish. I like all kinds of shit.

CG: Do you prefer working with a tablet when designing or do you prefer more traditional means like the mouse, or pencil and paper?

KB: I HATE using a mouse now. That’s all I used until I sold my first design and bought myself a tablet. Hell, I even catch myself using it just to surf the internet. I don’t use paper and pencil either. Like I said, I can’t draw.

CG: What was your first tee design that you created? What was the first design you sold? Show us some pictures!

KB: I don’t have the first design I created anymore. I’m sure a few people will remember it though. Hahah. It was this really bad argyle design. I downloaded an argyle pattern, put it in Photoshop, then used the neon filter and viola! I wish I still had a picture of it. The first design I ever sold was a turtle design for Lauren Mulderrig. I was so proud of myself. I’m not that proud anymore.

CG: Which of you designs are you the most proud of and why?

KB: I really like my Passion design. I’m also really into the SUCK My Star design and the Happy Fucking V-Day design.
